THE Director-General and Focal Person on Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in Delta State, Chief Daniel Ivwighren, has revealed that the state government, under the leadership of Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, has continued to domesticate and implement the SDGs at the grassroots, including the approval of ₦600 million as counterpart funding under the 2024 Conditional Grant Scheme (CGS) for SDG projects and programmes across the state.
Chief Ivwighren made this known, yesterday, during the 10th Anniversary Celebration of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), held at the State Secretariat, Asaba.
The event, organised by the State Directorate of Sustainable Development Goals, marked the grand finale of the UN’s Global Decade of Action celebration, with the theme: “The Role of Critical Stakeholders in the Implementation of Sustainable Development Goals in Line with the MORE Agenda.”
In his remarks, the DG described the anniversary as a major milestone in the global effort to build a more sustainable, equitable, and prosperous world.
“As we reflect on the progress made, we must also acknowledge the challenges that remain. We must recognise the critical roles of government, the private sector, civil society, and individuals in driving progress,” he said.
He urged all stakeholders to renew their commitment and intensify efforts towards achieving the SDGs as the 2030 target year draws near.
“Let us seize this moment to redouble our efforts. Together, we can create a brighter future for all,” Ivwighren added, commending Governor Oborevwori’s leadership and continuous support for sustainable development.
In her goodwill message, the Head of Service, Dr Mininim Oseji, represented by the Director of Personnel Management (Senior Management, Office of the Head of Service), Mr Ogolokpe William, encouraged stakeholders to remain steadfast in pursuing the goals of eradicating poverty, ensuring economic advancement, and protecting the environment.
Also speaking, the Commissioner for Environment, Mr Jamani Ejiro, represented by the Director of Climate Change, Mrs. Vivian Briggs, reiterated the need for sustained collaboration among stakeholders to accelerate progress on the SDG targets.
