FG Opens TVET Applications, Expands Skills Training for Nigerian Youth

By Emmanuella Oghenetega

The Federal Government has opened applications for the second cohort of its National Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) Programme, as part of ongoing efforts to expand access to practical skills development and create employment opportunities for Nigerian youth.

The Federal Ministry of Education announced that interested Nigerians can begin applying from Monday, 13 April 2026, for the nationwide initiative designed to equip participants with industry-relevant competencies and strengthen the country’s technical workforce.

Minister of Education, Maruf Tunji Alausa, described the programme as a strategic intervention aimed at empowering young Nigerians with the skills needed to succeed in today’s economy. He noted that the initiative aligns with the Renewed Hope Agenda of Bola Ahmed Tinubu and reflects the administration’s commitment to promoting skills-based education and sustainable livelihoods.

He added that the programme will provide participants with hands-on training, recognised certification, and pathways to self-employment and entrepreneurship.
To further broaden opportunities, the Ministry is collaborating with the Federal Ministry of Arts, Culture and Tourism to strengthen training in creative and cultural sectors, tapping into Nigeria’s growing creative economy.

The TVET Programme offers six-month and one-year training courses across accredited centres in all 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory. Participants will receive a monthly stipend of ₦22,500 and a nationally recognised certificate upon successful completion.
Training areas include construction, ICT, automotive technology, creative media, agriculture, fashion and garment production, cosmetology, tourism and hospitality, catering services, and leather works, among others.

Applicants are required to demonstrate commitment to full participation, with attendance monitored through biometric verification. Stipends will be tied to compliance with attendance requirements.

Prospective applicants must provide their National Identification Number (NIN) and Bank Verification Number (BVN) during registration.

Applications can be submitted through the official portal: www.tvet.education.gov.ng
The Ministry encouraged eligible Nigerians to take advantage of the opportunity to acquire market-relevant skills, enhance employability, and contribute to national development.
