…Urge MDAs to Strengthen Defenses and Ensure Data Integrity
By Emmanuella Oghenetega
In response to growing concerns over vulnerabilities within digital systems, the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) and the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) have activated urgent cybersecurity protocols aimed at securing critical government infrastructure.
Both agencies have implemented coordinated measures in line with national cybersecurity frameworks, reaffirming their commitment to preserving the integrity and security of public sector services.
NITDA has issued a clear directive to all Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) to enhance their cybersecurity practices in compliance with the National Cybersecurity Policy and Strategy (NCPS) 2021. This includes a comprehensive review and fortification of cybersecurity frameworks to guard against emerging threats targeting government platforms and sensitive data.
As part of the proactive measures, MDAs are required to carry out thorough security assessments, address identified vulnerabilities, and bolster access controls. Agencies must also ramp up data protection strategies, ensure robust backup and disaster recovery systems, and enhance monitoring capabilities to swiftly detect and mitigate suspicious activities.
Furthermore, NITDA emphasized the necessity for effective incident response protocols, ensuring timely reporting of cybersecurity breaches for immediate intervention.
The new directives include detailed guidelines for MDAs to adopt in strengthening their digital infrastructures, reinforcing national efforts to secure public sector digital assets and bolster overall cybersecurity resilience.
NITDA’s commitment to guiding government bodies in upholding cybersecurity standards underscores the agency’s ongoing mission to safeguard national digital assets.
