Gunmen suspected to be cultists have beheaded the President of the Omoku Youth Federation in Rivers State, Comrade Ifeanyi Azuazu.
The gunmen also killed Azuazu’s aide, Chigozie Oluwu, during an attack at a popular drinking joint along Ogolo street,off Palace road in Omoku, Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni Local Government Area.
The gunmen numbering about seven drove in two vehicles into the bar and upon sighting the Youth President, pointed a gun at him while ordering him to get inside their waiting car. The aide who had tried to intervene was shot at close range by the assailants, killing him instantly.
The incident resulted in pandemonium as passers-by and residents scampered for safety while some business owners hurriedly closed their shops for the day.
The police and men of the ONELGA Security and Planning Advisory Committee (OSPAC) later recovered the headless body of the Youth President at a forest in Omuku.
The Public Relations Officer of Rivers State Police Command, CSP Grace Koko confirmed the killing of Chigozie Oluwu and the abduction, beheading and recovery of the corpse of the Omoku Youth President, Ifeanyi Azuazu.
She added that the incident is cult-related and that the Commissioner of Police, CP Olugbenga Adepoju, has ordered a full-scale investigation into the incident with a view to apprehending the perpetrators.
