Tonukari Hails Delta Assembly For Approving Dual Mode Programme In Colleges Of Education

BY IFEANYI UWAGWU

DELTA State Commissioner for Higher Education, Prof. Nyerhovwo Tonukari, has expressed profound appreciation to the Delta State House of Assembly for the passage of the bill approving the dual mode programme in the state’s Colleges of Education.

Tonukari, in a statement issued in Asaba, commended the Chairman of the House Committee on Education, Hon. Charles Emetulu, for his leadership and commitment in championing the legislative process that led to the passage of the bill.

Describing the initiative as a “game-changer” for higher education in the state, the commissioner said the dual mode programme will enable students to obtain both the Nigeria Certificate in Education (NCE) and a bachelor’s degree simultaneously, without the need to affiliate with another institution.

This progressive and dynamic initiative marks a remarkable milestone in the educational advancement of Delta State. It will make our Colleges of Education more competitive and attractive while offering students the opportunity to pursue their academic goals in a more efficient and affordable manner.”

He noted that the approval underscores the state government’s commitment to innovation and access in education, stressing that the new programme will save students from the bureaucratic and financial burdens associated with inter-institutional affiliations.

“My appreciation goes to the Delta State House of Assembly members for their collective effort in making this law a reality. You are true champions of education, and your visionary leadership is helping to shape the future of our state,” Tonukari stated.

He further described the passage of the bill as a “major win” for Delta students, adding that it aligns with Governor Sheriff Oborevwori’s MORE Agenda, which prioritises education, human capital development, and institutional reform.

The commissioner reaffirmed his ministry’s readiness to work with the Colleges of Education and relevant stakeholders to ensure smooth implementation of the dual mode system across the state’s tertiary institutions.
