In his capacity as the Visitor to the Delta State Polytechnic, Ogwashi-Uku, Aniocha South Local Government Area of Delta State, the Governor of the state, Rt. Hon. Elder Sheriff Oborevwori has approved the immediate suspension of the Rector, Prof. Emmanuel Achuenu, and the Bursar of the Polytechnic, Mr. Lawrence Ahwabighe, for six months, respectively, and also upheld the earlier suspension of the Registrar of the institution by the Governing Council.
According to a statement signed by the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Dr. Kingsley Emu, the suspension of the principal officers of the institution was to allow for an unbiased investigation into the alleged administrative misconduct and financial breaches leveled against them by the institution’s Governing Council.
The statement further added that the Deputy Rector should act as Rector until the expiration of the six months suspension,while the most senior accountant in the Bursary department would similarly act as bursar until the expiration of the six months suspension on the bursar.
Recall that the State House of Assembly had on Thursday, agreed with the suspension of the principal officers of the institution.
The House made its resolution in a report presented by the seven-man adhoc committee constituted to look into the lingering internal crisis in the institution, chaired by the Majority Leader, Hon. Emeka Nwaobi.
