The Delta State Orientation and Communications Bureau has advised residents and drivers in the state to avoid walking or driving through fast-moving floodwaters to prevent accidents and delays during the rainy reason.
The Bureau, in a statement, yesterday, by the Director-General, Dr Fred Latimore Oghenesivbe, said the advice became necessary as a result of the reliable weather forecast and predictions by the Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet).
According to NiMet forcat, there shall be thunderstorms and heavy rainfall in some parts of Nigeria, including Delta State, beginning from June 11.
Dr. Oghenesivbe urged residents in flood prone communities, especially citizens in the Riverine areas to move their valuables upland, harvest matured cash crops to avoid losing same to flooding, adding that the NiMet prediction should not be ignored.
He said the State Bureau of Communications and Orientation would embark on strategic advocacy in selected flood prone communities across the three senatorial districts.
The Bureau urged residents to keep their environments clean, avoid indiscriminate dumping of refuse, avoid driving under heavy rain, disconnect electrical appliances from electrical sockets, and stay away from tall trees to avoid impact from falling branches and broken trees.
