Monu Bags FUPRE Fellowship, Seeks Support Against Oil Theft

THE former member of Delta State House of Assembly and one-time Commissioner for Commerce and Industry, Hon. Chinwe Monu-Oduah has been conferred with the prestigious Fellow Award by the Federal University of Petroleum Resources, Centre for Sustainable Development (FUPRE-CSD). The award is in recognition of her outstanding contributions to sustainable development, education, and grassroots empowerment across Delta State.

The honour was presented at the university’s 4th Anniversary and Roundtable on Sustainable Development, held at Pinnacle Hotel, Asaba.

While receiving the award, Hon. Monu-Oduah, who currently serves as Founder, Monu-Oduah Foundation (MOF), called for urgent and collective action against oil theft—a crisis she described as a major threat to national development and environmental sustainability.

“Oil theft is not just an economic crime; it is a sabotage of our future,” she stated. “We must all join hands with the government, communities, and institutions to put an end to this scourge that undermines our progress.”

She commended FUPRE for its dedication to sustainable development and expressed deep appreciation for the recognition, reaffirming her commitment to building a more just, resilient, and sustainable society.  “This award is not merely a recognition of past efforts—it is a call to do more,” she added. In a remark, the management of FUPRE described the conferment as a tribute to Monu-Oduah’s impactful service in both public and traditional sectors.

The organisers mentioned as part of her achievements as a former lawmaker, who represented Oshimili South, her pivotal role in the domestication of the Child Rights Act in Delta State, while commending her tenure as Commissioner, when championed several initiatives aimed at empowering women and local traders through business skills training and financial support.

The organisers noted that the Fellow Award on Monu-Oduah affirms more than a record of achievements, it also celebrates a life of purpose, legacy, and dedicated service.

Monu-Oduah, they said that embodies servant leadership and exemplifies a vision where empowered citizens shape a prosperous and sustainable Nigeria.
