The Chairman of Sapele Local Government Area, Hon. Chief Bright Abeke, who was abducted by suspected gunmen in Delta State, has reportedly regained his freedom after 10 days in captivity.
Abeke was kidnapped earlier this month at his hotel along Owumi Road in Sapele, where armed men stormed the premises, fired gunshots, and whisked him away to an unknown destination.
During the attack, a local vigilante member was reportedly shot and injured. Security agencies, led by the Delta State Police Command, had since launched intensive rescue efforts to secure his safe release.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Yemi Oyeniyi, had personally visited the crime scene and assured residents and the chairman’s family that the command was committed to ensuring his safe and unharmed return.
News of his release has brought relief to residents of Sapele and political stakeholders across Delta State, who had expressed concern and called for his unconditional freedom.
Further details surrounding his release are still emerging.
