Delta Bureau of LG Pensions Commends Gov Oborevwori On Improved Pensions Management

…Reaffirm Commitment to Transparency, Efficiency

The Delta State Bureau of Local Government Pensions has commended Governor Sheriff Oborevwori for his proactive leadership and consistent support for regular payment of pensions and gratuities, describing the development as a strong demonstration of the administration’s dedication to workers’ welfare.

Disclosing improvements in the management of the Contributory Pensions under the administration, the Bureau revealed that as of April 2025, all LG Workers under the scheme who retired before before or by September 2024 have been fully paid their entitlements, while attention has been turned on retirees from October 2024.

These disclosures were made by the Secretary of the Bureau, Onyemeni Frank Atube, representing the Chairman, Benjamin Igo, at the flag off of the Bureau’s stakeholders’ sensitization and enlightenment programme in Koko, headquarters of Warri North Local Government Area, Tuesday October 7.

Atube reaffirmed the commitment of the Bureau to transparency, accountability, and improved welfare for local government workers and retirees under the Contributory Pension Scheme (CPS).

Speaking at the event, Atube said the sensitization campaign was designed to bridge communication gaps and promote a clearer understanding of the Contributory Pension Scheme among key stakeholders, including council officials, education authorities, and pension desk officers.

He assured that the Bureau would take the sensitization to all 25 Local Government Areas of the state to ensure that every stakeholder is properly informed and guided in the management of pension matters.

As part of the enlightenment process, the Bureau presented copies of the Bureau’s official handbook on the administration and management of the Local Government Contributory Pensions Scheme to the Vice Chairman of Warri North, Hon. Mrs. Florence Bisina, who represented the Council hairman, Hon. Festus Ani Ashima.

Responding, Hon. Bisina commended the Bureau for its operational excellence and its efforts in ensuring that pension and gratuity payments are up to date.

She described the exercise as a reflection of the State Government’s commitment to the well-being of Local Government workers and retirees.

She further pledged the support of the Warri North Local Government Council to the full implementation of the Contributory Pension Scheme, adding that the enlightenment session had provided clarity and assurance to the council staff.

The sensitization event also featured presentations from Pension Fund Administrators (PFAs) and Insurance and Assurance Companies, who explained their roles in the management of pension assets and annuity services for retirees.

The Bureau reiterated that the ongoing sensitization programme is meant to deepen awareness, promote accountability, and strengthen confidence in the Contributory Pension Scheme for Local Government workers.
