Political Group Mobilises For Voter Registration

BY PAUL EGEDE

A political support group, Olor-Ru-Olor in Ika South Local Government Area of Delta State has charged defectors to the All Progressives Congress (APC) to ensure they have their voters cards and be properly registered in the party and get their membership cards.  The group gave the charge at its leadership meeting held over the weekend in Agbor.

Leader of Olor-Ru-Olor Political Support Group,  Amb.  John Nwagimejen, at the meeting said “the defection of members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the APC in Ika South was total and without pre-conditions.”

‘’The first evidence of membership of the APC is the possession of a membership card. The national leadership of the APC approved Delta State for the pilot e-registration. I therefore advise party members to take advantage of this to obtain party membership cards.”

He emphasised that defection to the APC was a product of wide and rich consultations, adding that the benefits of the decision have started to manifest, even as he pointed to the award of a contract to build a Flyover Bridge in Agbor by the state government.

Continuing, Pa Nwagimejen assured the leadership of the APC that the unprecedented mass defection to the party was not aimed at undermining the status quo, but to collaborate for optimal strength, stressing that all that the new members’ desire is seamless integration into the party’s activities.

The party chieftain advised the people to take advantage of the ongoing voters’ registration. He said “the Independent Electoral Commission (INEC) has commenced voters’ registration throughout the country.

‘’The exercise is at the ward level. I appeal to our people who have attained the required age to obtain their voters cards. Those who lost their cards or relocated have a window to get new cards or transfer their voting units to reflect their current place of residence.

‘’The voter’s card is also a means of identification. The gains derivable from a voter’s card are many, and we should therefore mobilise our people to obtain it.” Nwagimejen reminded the people of Ika South that “any person who was born here, resided here for long, agrees to integrate and work with the people should be treated as an indigene.’’  In his remarks, the Chairman of Ika South Local Government Area, Engr. Jerry Ehiwarior said about 10,000 party members have registered through the electronic system, assuring that the figures will continue on a steady rise with the support of party leaders and stakeholders in the various wards.
