AWU Club Sends SoS To Oborevwori Over Deplorable Roads

A group, under the umbrella of Awu Elites Club of Abavo in Ika South Local Government Area of Delta State, has appealed to the Governor Sheriff Oborevwori for the rehabilitation of the Agbor/Abavo- Abraka/Eku road in the state.

Awu Elites Club, in a statement signed by its president, Prince Frank Jegbefume and Secretary, Engr. Emeke Oseki, appealed to the state Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori to intervene and save some of the affected communities.

According to the statement, “We wish to first of all commend Your Excellency for the good work that you have been doing since you were inaugurated as the Governor of Delta State”.

The statement further disclosed that “Abavo Market, once a pride of Delta State is now a shadow of its former self. The market that once served as a hub of fresh vegetables, processed cassava (garri) and yam tubers for traders all over the country is today a practically abandoned market due to the dilapidated state of this road.

‘’Furthermore, the road runs through Abavo Kingdom and practically divides the kingdom into two fairly equal parts.

“The implication of this is that the road is vital to the daily transportation activities of Abavo people and serves as a major link between one part of the kingdom and the other part.

“The current state of the road has impacted negatively on the ability of the people to move from one part of the kingdom to the other, thereby increasing travel time with its attendant consequences.

“This road also serves the oil and gas regions of Delta State and the northern parts of the country. Its current state also has far reaching implications on the ability of travellers between both regions to travel to and from one region to the other for their day-to-day businesses.

“Consequently, this club is appealing to the state Governor to intervene by rehabilitating the road as its current state has far reaching negative implications not just on the communities and towns but on the overall economy of Delta State.

“We are appealing that despite this, you should kindly use your good offices to intervene so as to end the pains that our people and other communities along this road are going through because of its current state.”
