Flood: DSCTDA Clears Blocked Drains In Capital Territory

THE Delta State Capital Territory Development Agency (DSCTDA) has embarked on major evacuation of waste from blocked drainage channels along major roads within the capital territory, as part of efforts to improve drainage flow and enhance the city’s aesthetic appeal.

The clean-up exercise, carried out by the agency’s Environmental Unit, covered key areas including Summit Road, DBS Road, NTA Road, and other strategic routes.

The operation left the roads with a cleaner, renewed look, in line with the agency’s “Secure, Clean, and Green” campaign aimed at safeguarding the environment, preventing flooding, and promoting public health.

The Director-General of the DSCTDA, Chief Patrick Ukah, commended the Environmental Unit for its swift intervention, noting that the exercise was not just about clearing drains but also about protecting lives, property, and the image of the capital city.

“A clean and well-drained environment reduces flooding risks, prevents disease outbreaks, and improves the quality of life for everyone,” Ukah stated.

He stressed that maintaining cleanliness is a shared responsibility and urged residents to stop indiscriminate dumping of refuse, especially into drains, while adhering to sanitation guidelines.

Ukah assured that the agency will sustain regular desilting of drains, strict monitoring of waste disposal, and continuous public sensitisation to instill lasting environmental discipline across the capital territory.
