TRAGEDY struck in the Hausa quarters area along Warri/Sapele road, as a young man was electrocuted by a high-tension cable which had fallen on a commercial bus.
An eyewitness told our correspondent that the high tension wire collapsed on top of a commercial mini-bus, locally known as kpelegbe, which was parked in front of a filling station. The bus was reportedly loaded with passengers at the time, who fled in panic to avoid being electrocuted.
According to reports, the deceased, said to have been eating lunch at a nearby betting centre located in a storey building close to the filling station, rushed out after the incident. Armed only with a wet carton, he reportedly attempted to remove the high-tension wires from the top of the vehicle in a bid to help, but was tragically electrocuted in the process.
His death has thrown the community into mourning, with many residents calling for improved safety measures and quicker responses from electricity authorities to prevent similar incidents.
