Eyimosa Begs Govt To Construct Dac Chukwura Road

RESIDENTS of Dac Chukwura street have called on the leadership of Aniocha South Local Government and the Delta State Government, to construct existing earth road.

A leading member of the street, Mr. Glory Eyimosa, who made the call in a chat with our correspondent in Ogwashi-Uku, disclosed that unless something urgent is done, the road may soon become impassable.

While describing the road as a major one connecting other parts of Isah-Ogwashi-Uku, he maintained that the residents of the area has over time through self help tried to make the road motorable.

He revealed that as part of the efforts of residents of the street to maintain the road, they have had to channel waters that flood the street whenever rain falls by digging shallow ditches as drainages by the road shoulders. “Some years back, during the reign of former governor Ifeanyi Okowa, the bill of quantity (BOQ) of the road was prepared after the feasibility study of the road has been made.

“What was left was just for the state government to approve the construction. The road was measured from the Dac Chukwura street junction, off the Ogwashi-Uku – Ubulu-Uku highway to Ogwashi-Uku main market.

“As that time, it was measured as a little over two kilometers road. It was evaluated and the cost gave birth to the BOQ which was prepared.

“All the state government needs to do is just to exhume the file and look at it again, this is because, the proposed cost for the construction of the road then, with the high cost of everything now cannot take care of the road now.

“Like I said before, we have on our own been managing the road, even our kids hardly find a place to pass whenever they are going to school when rain falls.

“Sometimes ago, a life was lost when a man fell into one of the ditches we have dug to channel out the flooding that occurs on the road whenever rain falls.

“That singular incident made us to avoid digging ditches. Unfortunately, that has made the road impassable for both pedestrians and motorist alike.

“All the current government needs to do is just to start the road construction process where the out-gone government stopped. I must say that the road is a very important one for all persons living within that area.

“That we had several cases around the vicinity there was due primarily to the failed road. The bad eggs uses the road as their rendezvous knowing that it is not easy for their targets to escape easily whenever they strike.

“This is apart from the fact that a good number of farmers transport their farm produce using the road. If you see them struggling through the failed road, you cannot but feel sorry for them.

“The state government should come to our aids and construct the road for us. It will go a long way to ameliorate our difficulty”, Eyimosa said.
