Delta Police Warn Residents Of New ATM Scam

DELTA State Police Command has issued a fresh warning to the public over a new and sophisticated ATM card scam currently circulating within the state.

The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Bright Edafe sounded the alarm in a post on his official X (formerly Twitter) handle over the weekend, cautioning residents to be vigilant in handling their ATM cards.

“Please be careful with your ATM cards. Scammers no longer need your PIN or even access to your phone. Just a picture of your card details in the wrong hands, and your money can be wiped out through continuous debits,” Edafe warned.

He emphasized that fraudsters do not require a One-Time Password (OTP) to initiate withdrawals, making the scheme particularly dangerous and difficult to trace.

The PPRO also advised against entrusting others with ATM cards for errands, no matter how trustworthy they may seem.

“Don’t say the Police didn’t warn you about the fraudulent activities t going on in the society,” he added.

The police urged residents to report any suspicious activity related to ATM card usage and to exercise extreme caution to prevent falling victim to such cybercrimes.
