NYSC Pays N44,000 Arrears To Ex-Corps Members

THE National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) scheme has commenced the payment of ₦44,000 arrears to ex-corps members of the 2024 Batch A, Streams I and II, who recently completed their one-year National service.

This development sparked a wave of excitement and curiosity on social media, particularly on X (formerly Twitter), where many former corps members shared screenshots of credit alerts as proof of payment. The Pointer monitored several of these trending posts.

One user wrote, “Them don start de pay arrears ooo. But as e be 44k, I no understand!! Is it 44k until they complete the total or na at all at all?” Another post read, “If you see any Batch A1 and A2 2024 corps members, bill them… FG just sent 44k to them.”

The posts have triggered further reactions online, with some users applauding the Federal Government for fulfilling its promise, while others raised questions about the payment structure and whether more disbursements are expected.

The demand for arrears began after the Federal Government, in March, raised the monthly allowance of serving corps members to ₦77,000. However, those who had completed their service before the implementation felt left out and called for retrospective payments.

During the Batch A2 Passing Out Parade (POP), the new Director-General of NYSC, Brigadier General Olakunle Nafiu, assured ex-corps members that their arrears would be paid in due course. The recent payments appear to be a first instalment of that commitment.

As of press time, NYSC is yet to release an official statement clarifying whether the ₦44,000 represents a partial or full payment of the owed arrears.
