BY ELOHOR FOGHOLA

THE Chairman of the Delta State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission (DESOPADEC), Chief John Nani, and the Managing Director, Chief Festus Ochonogor, have congratulated Governor Sheriff Oborevwori on his emergence as the recipient of the Leadership and New Telegraph Newspapers’ Governor of the Year Award 2025.

In a congratulatory message following the presentation of the awards at the New Telegraph Newspaper annual Dinner and Award night in Lagos, as well as the 18th Leadership Newspaper Annual Conference and Awards held at the Bola Tinubu International Conference Centre, Abuja.

Chief Nani described the honours as a national validation of Delta’s progress and a reflection of purposeful leadership.  “This is a proud moment for Delta State; these recognitions confirm that the transformation under Governor Oborevwori is visible, measurable, and nationally acknowledged,” he said.

He noted that the governor’s achievements in road construction, education, healthcare, and people-oriented policies have placed Delta as a model state for development in Nigeria. Nani expressed confidence that the recognition would motivate the governor to consolidate existing gains and deepen inclusive growth across the state, particularly in oil-producing communities.

In the same vein, Chief Ochonogor said the Commission is beaming with pride as the double honour stands out as a strong testament to Governor Oborevwori’s purposeful leadership, people-centred governance, and unwavering commitment to sustainable development across Delta State.

He added that the awards are a proud moment for the people of Delta State, while reassuring the Governor of DESOPADEC’s commitment to aligning with his vision by intensifying project delivery, deepening stakeholders’ collaboration and ensuring that oil-producing communities continue to benefit from sustainable and impactful development interventions.

According to him, “Leadership Newspapers awarded the governor for his impactful infrastructure drive, inclusive governance model, and consistent implementation of policies under his MORE Agenda, which have accelerated development across Delta State.

“While the New Telegraph also recognised the governor for distinguishing himself through people-focused programmes, strategic infrastructure expansion, and socio-economic policies that have positively transformed lives across the state.”
