THE Delta State Ministry of Justice, in collaboration with Law Pavilion, has organised a three-day training programme on Artificial Intelligence (AI) for its legal officers.
The training was designed to improve legal research, case management, and office work efficiency.
Speaking at the programme, the Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Mr Ekemejero Ohwovoriole, SAN, represented by the Solicitor-General and Permanent Secretary, Mr Omamuzo Erebe, SAN, said the training was meant to help officers understand and use new technology in their daily work.
He said the legal profession is changing because of technology and that AI is now an important tool for lawyers.
According to him, AI does not replace lawyers but helps them work faster and better, especially in legal research, handling cases, and managing office tasks.
He added that the Ministry is moving its operations into the digital space and that the NBA-ICLE-certified training will help officers gain the skills they need in today’s modern legal environment.
The Attorney-General explained that AI can help lawyers understand complex legal issues by analysing laws, court decisions, and scholarly opinions, which can improve legal analysis and decision-making.
He stressed that AI cannot replace human judgment, ethics, and legal reasoning, but it can make legal work more efficient.
Delivering a lecture, the Director of the Department of Law Review, Research, Reporting and Publications, Mr Ben Adigwe, spoke on the scope and uses of artificial intelligence in the legal sector.
Officials of Law Pavilion Business Solutions, Mr Sogbein Olalekan and Mrs Oyinkansola Ibukun-Thomas, also demonstrated how Law Pavilion AI can be used for legal research and case management.
