The Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) has listed Fred Edoreh, former Chairman of the Lagos Chapter and currently Senior Special Assistant on Media to the Governor of Delta State, Sheriff Oborevwori, for Special Recognition as part of activities to mark the 60th anniversary of the foundation of the association.
In a letter of notification signed by the National Secretary of SWAN, Ikenna Okonkwo, the association said the honour is in recognition of Edoreh’s outstanding contributions, professionalism and enduring service to the growth and integrity of sports journalism in Nigeria.
“Over the years, your commitment, mentorship and passion have inspired generations of journalists and enriched the nation’s sporting narrative.
“This recognition is a token of appreciation for your sacrifices and legacy in promoting excellence, fairness and credibility in sports reporting,” SWAN wrote.
Edoreh, who was two-time Secretary and two-time Chairman of the Lagos Chapter of SWAN is widely celebrated in the national and international sports journalism circle his introduction of several initiatives and innovations in the governance of the association.
Some of his legacies include ensuring the completion and equipment of the Lagos SWAN Secretariat, engineering effective marketing and revenue generation for the sustenance of the body, championing the establishment of the Lagos SWAN City Estate, fostering institutional relations with both the public and private sectors, instituting professional training and retraining programmes for members at the Nigeria Institute of Journalism (NIJ) and Lagos Business School, as well as building unity, bonding and team spirit among members through various activities.
The award ceremony is scheduled for October 31 at the MKO Abiola Stadium, Abuja.
