IN a landmark gesture that underscores his administration’s commitment to youth development and inclusive governance, the Chairman, Ika South Local Government Area, Engr. Jerry Ehiwarior has handed over a brand-new Sienna vehicle to the National Association of Ika Students (NAIS), the umbrella body representing Ika students across tertiary institutions nationwide.
The handover ceremony, which took place at the Ika South Local Government Secretariat, Agbor, attracted a large turnout of student leaders, NAIS executives from different chapters, alumni, traditional leaders, political appointees, community stakeholders, and top officials of the local government.
Speaking at the ceremony, Engr. Jerry Ehiwarior said the donation was borne out of his firm belief that students remain critical stakeholders in community development and future leadership. He noted that the vehicle would significantly enhance NAIS’ capacity to coordinate its nationwide activities, engage relevant authorities, and respond swiftly to issues affecting Ika students both within and outside Delta State.
The chairman further reaffirmed his administration’s openness to constructive engagement with youths and students, stressing that sustainable development can only be achieved when young people are actively involved in decision-making processes.
In his response, the National President of NAIS expressed profound gratitude to the local government chairman ,describing the gesture as historic and transformative. According to him, the vehicle would address long-standing logistical challenges faced by the association, particularly in coordinating inter-campus activities, welfare interventions, advocacy visits, and official engagements.
The event was marked by jubilation, chants, and resounding commendations for what many described as an unprecedented show of support for organized student leadership in Ika land.
The highlight of the ceremony was the formal presentation of the vehicle keys to NAIS executives, followed by a tour of the brand-new Sienna amid cheers and photo sessions.
