The Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) has announced a nationwide clampdown on unregistered Point of Sale (POS) operators from January 1, 2026.
The Commission noted a growing number of POS operators operating without proper registration, in breach of CAMA 2020 and CBN Agent Banking Regulations. All operators are now required to register with the CAC or risk immediate shutdown.
In a statement released today, the agency warned that security agencies would enforce compliance across the country.
It also highlighted that the unregulated activities, sometimes facilitated by certain fintech firms, pose serious risks to Nigeria’s financial system and citizens’ investments.
“Unregistered POS terminals will be seized or shut down by security officials. Fintechs enabling illegal operations will be placed on a watchlist and reported to the CBN. Operators are urged to regularise immediately. Compliance is mandatory,” the statement added.
