Trad Institutions Will Be Preserved Under President Tinubu —Shettima

Vice President Sen Kashim Shettima has reaffirmed the commitment of President Bola Tinubu’s administration to safeguarding traditional institutions in Nigeria, describing them as the enduring pillars of grassroots leadership.

Speaking during the 45th Anniversary of the Emir of Gumel, HRH Alhaji Ahmed Mohammed Sani II, and the commissioning of the Gumel Central Mosque in Jigawa State, VP Shettima emphasised that while the tenure of political office holders is limited, traditional institutions outlast administrations and must be respected, protected, and preserved.

“I am quite glad to be back home. Gumel is home. This Emirate, founded in 1750 by Danjuma, has a rich history. The Emir, who is the 13th in succession, has served his people for 45 years. May Allah bless him with good health to witness his Golden Jubilee and centenary celebrations,” he said.

The Vice President also paid tribute to the Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Muhammed Sa’ad Abubakar III, describing him as a unifying leader who continually fosters peace across the country. VP Shettima further lauded the Governor of Jigawa State, Mallam Umar Namadi, for cultivating 10,000 hectares of wheat, surpassing the output of the other 18 northern states combined.

Governor Namadi expressed gratitude to VP Shettima for attending the historic celebration, highlighting the Vice President’s commitment to the development and progress of Jigawa State. The Sultan of Sokoto, in his remarks, called for unity, tolerance, and mutual respect among all Nigerians regardless of religious or cultural differences.

The event was attended by prominent dignitaries, including the Deputy Chief of Staff to the President, Sen Ibrahim Hassan Hadeija; Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, Sen Abubakar Kyari; the Deputy Governor of Jigawa State, Alhaji Aminu Usman; and several traditional rulers and members of the state executive and National Assembly.

VP Shettima’s remarks underscored the Tinubu administration’s resolve to maintain Nigeria’s rich cultural heritage while promoting peace, unity, and development across the nation.
