THE Zik Grammar School, Sapele Old Students Association (ZGSOSA) set of ‘81, has made a passionate plea to the Delta State government to prioritize the improvement of educational standards in the state.
Speaking on behalf of the association, the Chairman, Chief Tony Uronarigho, ably represented by the Secretary, Mr Austin Ekede, at the Association’s get-together in Sapele, said the call to action underscored the association’s commitment to enhancing the quality of education and ensuring that future generations had access to world-class learning facilities.
The association noted that the request was timely, given the current state of public schools in Nigeria. “Many schools struggle with inadequate infrastructure, outdated curricula and insufficient resources, hindering students’ ability to compete globally”.
ZGSOSA Chairman added that the Zik Grammar School Old Students Association aimed to bridge the gap between the current state of education and the high standards required for academic excellence.
According to the association, to achieve this goal, the government needed to focus on several key areas. infrastructure development, teachers training and curriculum review.
Speaking further, the association urged the government to encourage community involvement in education, fostering partnerships between schools, private businesses and old students’ associations. “This collaborative approach can help address funding gaps, provide additional resources and ensure sustainability. By working together, stakeholders can revitalize the education sector and restore public schools to their former glory.”
The association said the call to action served as a reminder that improving educational standards requires collective effort. “As the Delta State government considers this plea, it is essential to prioritize the needs of schools and students, investing in initiatives that promote academic excellence and equip future generations for success.”
