THE Chairman Ughelli North Local Government, Olorogun Jaro Egbo, yesterday, paid an unscheduled visit to Oharisi Basic School and Institute of Continuing Education (ICE), both public schools located along Isoko Road in the heart of Ughelli, to address recurring concerns over truancy, violence, rascality and cultism among students.
According to his post on his Facebook page, Egbo engaged directly with students and staff, stressing the need for discipline and a renewed commitment to academic excellence. He stated that the intervention aligns with the education and youth development focus of the M.O.R.E Agenda of Sheriff Oborevwori, which prioritises Education and enhanced security.
Addressing the students, he emphasised that the state government remained committed to protecting both learners and teachers, warning that there will be zero tolerance for truancy, violence and all forms of indiscipline within school premises.
He further declared that any student found loitering during school hours would be arrested and made to face the full weight of the law, noting that such measures are necessary to restore order and create a safe, conducive learning environment. School authorities welcomed the visit, describing it as timely and reassuring. They expressed hope that the renewed enforcement efforts would help curb negative behaviours and strengthen discipline across public schools in the area.
