Anambra Security Operative Arrested Over Nnewi Killing

BY SUNNY DAVID

Following the fatal shooting of one Chiamaka Okeke in Nnewi, in the commercial city of Anambra State, on Tuesday, the suspected killer, a member of the Agụnechemba security outfit, has reportedly been identified and arrested.

Okeke was killed when the vigilante operative allegedly fired shots indiscriminately into the air to clear traffic at Ibeto Junction, allowing his patrol vehicle to pass.

While initial reports from sources in the area identified the suspect as 36-year-old Chinedu Okonkwo, an Ezza, Ebonyi State native who recently joined Agunechemba, the Anambra State Police Spokesperson, SP Tochukwu Ikenga declined to confirm this information, stating that he had no such report.

Anambra State Commissioner of Police, CP Ikioye Orutugu, has appealed for calm, assuring that the command is working with Agụnechemba to ensure that justice is served.

He described the incident as regrettable and confirmed that investigations are ongoing.
