Yuletide: LG Authority Bans Fireworks, Restricts Use of Motorcycles At Night

FOR effective policing during the yuletide, the Aniocha North Local Government Peace and Security Committee  has banned the use of fireworks(knockouts) and restricted motorcycle  operations  at night.

The security measures were aimed at ensuring the safety of residents and travellers during the Christmas and New Year festivities across the local government area as the decisions were reached at the Committee’s security review meeting.

In response to emerging security threats across the local area, and after exhaustive deliberations on security reports and intelligence briefings, the Committee resolved to step up vigilance across the local government area.

According to the committee headed by Hon. Emma Chinye, the sale and use of fireworks, popularly known as “knock out,” remained banned in the local government area in line with existing police directives.

The Committee directed that strict enforcement of the ban by security agencies will commence on Monday, December 15, 2025.

In a move to curb the rising cases of accidents linked to reckless riding, the Committee further resolved that any commercial motorcycle operator (Okada rider) caught engaging in reckless driving will be fined N20,000 for a first offender, while a second offender will lead to  impoundment of the motorcycle.

The Committee also approved a ban on the use of motorcycles at night, declaring that the operation of  motorcycles is prohibited from 10:00 p.m. to 5am daily, and will take effect from Monday December 15, 2025, till the festive period is over.

The Committee further  emphasized that the measures were  aimed at improving the security situation in the local government area and ensuring a peaceful festive season, while residents and operators were expected to comply strictly with the new directive.
