Youth Council Postpones Proposed Conference Indefinitely

BY ENDURANCE IKANONE

THE Okpe Youth Council (OYC), has announced the indefinite postponement of its proposed youth conference earlier scheduled to hold on July 24, 2025. The event, which was expected to draw youths from across Delta State and beyond, had listed the Governor of Niger State, Mohammed Umar Bago, as a keynote speaker.

Addressing newsmen in Sapele yesterday, the President of the Council, Comrade Moses Odiete, explained that the decision to postpone the programme was reached after careful deliberations by the Council’s executive committee.

According to Odiete, the postponement became necessary due to unforeseen circumstances which were beyond the Council’s control. While he did not disclose specific reasons, he assured that efforts were ongoing to resolve the issues and set a new date for the event.

“We regret to announce the indefinite postponement of the Okpe Youth Conference earlier fixed for July 24,” Odiete said. “On behalf of myself and the executive committee, we sincerely apologise for any inconvenience this decision may have caused to invited guests, participants, and members of the general public.”

The conference, which was to be held in Okpe Local Government Area, had generated anticipation among young people in Okpe Kingdom, with plans for robust discussions on youth development, governance, and economic empowerment. Governor Bago’s scheduled appearance as keynote speaker had been widely regarded as a rare opportunity for young people in the region to engage with a sitting governor outside Delta State.
