The Delta State Commissioner for Secondary Education, Mrs Rose Ezewu, has called for unity and renewed dedication among teachers as the State Government joins the rest of the world to commemorate the 2025 World Teachers’ Day celebration today.
Speaking during a phone interview, Mrs Ezewu said the annual event not only celebrates the achievements and sacrifices of teachers but also highlights the challenges they face and the structural framework necessary to support the profession.
The Commissioner praised teachers across the state for their commitment to nurturing the minds and shaping the futures of Delta’s young generation.
She described teachers as “the architects of human development,” noting that their contribution remains central to the success of the education sector and the overall progress of society.
According to her, the theme for this year’s celebration, “Recasting Teaching as a Collaborative Profession,” underscores the need to move beyond viewing teaching as an isolated practice towards embracing teamwork and professional collaboration as vital tools for improving learning outcomes.
Ezewu emphasised that unity among teachers is key to achieving a collective vision of quality education in the State.
“When teachers unite under one purpose to inspire and educate, the result is a generation empowered to change the world. Let us continue to support one another and uphold the noble values of our profession,” she said.
She commended Governor Sheriff Oborevwori for his commitment to improving the welfare of teachers and strengthening the education sector through continuous training, capacity-building initiatives, and the creation of conducive environments for effective teaching and learning.
Ezewu reiterated the State Government’s resolve to continue investing in teachers as frontline agents of change, adding that education remains a cornerstone of Delta’s development agenda.
