Today being the commemoration of the World Statistics Day, Deltans have been enjoined to give correct and accurate information to statisticians, researchers and all users of data to enable the government have unfettered access to quality data for decision-making and general developmental purposes.
A statement by the Office of the Delta State Director of Statistics, Nkechi Maduemezie, in the State Ministry of Economic Planning, made available to The Pointer by the ministry’s Public Relations Officer (P.R.O.), Mrs. Ese Obote-Ogwu, said the theme of today’s World Statistics Day is “Driving Change with Quality Statistics and Data for Everyone.”
“Statisticians require the cooperation of all to make the state and indeed, the world a better place through reliable data gathering and processing.”
It was informed that the World Statistics Day is celebrated every five years in honour of statisticians.
It was created by the United Nations Commission on October 10, 2010. As at 2010, 103 countries celebrated
a National Statistician Day and 51 African countries celebrated African Statistics Day Analysis on November 18.
“Statisticians are celebrated all over the world for the vital role they play in decision making, in their wards, communities, countries and the whole world”, the statement said, adding that “without statistics, it would be difficult to attain a sustainable future.
