Why We Re-Introduced Delta Community Corps Agency Law —Anwuzia

BY ANDREW IKEHI

THE Chairman, Delta State House of Assembly committee on Peace and Security, and member representing Aniocha South State Constituency, Hon Isaac Anwuzia  has advanced reason for the re-introduction of the Delta State Community Corps Agency bill for first reading.

The bill , which had earlier sailed through first and second readings, as well as a public hearing, was yesterday, re-introduced for first reading on the floor of the State House of Assembly as presided over by the Speaker, Rt Hon Emomotimi Guwor.

The bill which has Hon. Anwuzia as lead sponsor, seeks to repeal the State Community Security Corps Agency Law, 2020 and establish the Delta state Community Corps Agency Law 2025,

The bill, which currently is being supported by 27 other lawmakers, sailed through first reading and is  slated for second reading on Tuesday, July 15, this year.

Motion for the first reading of the bill which was moved on the floor of the House by the lead sponsor, Hon. Isaac Anwuzia, was seconded by the member representing Ndokwa west, Hon. Charles Emetulu just as it was unanimously supported by the House.

Speaking with Assembly Correspondent on the recent development, Hon. Anwuzia advanced  reasons why he sought to repeal the existing law after previous attempt to amend the Delta state Community Security Corps Agency law 2020.

The lawmaker disclosed that after careful scrutiny by the joint committee on the earlier proposed amendment bill, it became necessary to enact a fresh law rather than amend the existing law.

He said, “We followed the procedure for the initial amendment bill; first reading, second Reading and public hearing as well as committee of the whole house, wherein members made their contributions. In the course of doing that, we discovered that it was important to repeal the entire law owing to several amendments made”.

“That informed Mr Speaker to refer the bill back to the committee for further scrutiny. The committee having presented its report to the house, the speaker directed me as the lead sponsor, to re-present the bill to the house as a fresh bill” Anwuzia stated.
