THE Chief Executive Officer of Precious Family Aid Charity Foundation, Mrs. Patricia Gbemudu, has been honoured for her unwavering commitment and relentless efforts in the fight against Gender- Based Violence (GBV) in Delta State.
The recognition was conferred during the inauguration and award ceremony of the United Nations Women Coordination Mechanism forum, Delta State chapter, held at the Chike Edozien Secretariat in Asaba.
The event, which brought together women leaders, civil society groups, and key stakeholders from across the state, aimed to strengthen the state’s collective response to gender inequality and violence, in line with the objectives of the UN Sustainable Development Goal 5 on gender equality and the empowerment of all women and girls.
Mrs. Gbemudu was celebrated as one of the frontline advocates whose passion and consistency in speaking up for the vulnerable, particularly victims of abuse, has helped spotlight the urgent need for systemic action against GBV. Her work through the Precious Family Aid Charity Foundation has impacted countless lives, especially in rural communities, where access to justice and support services for survivors of violence is often limited.
In presenting the award, organisers of the event praised her courage, advocacy, and community interventions, describing her as a voice of hope for many women and children living in fear and silence.
The award ceremony formed part of a broader initiative by UN Women and its partners to mobilise stakeholders, build local structures through the Gender Equality and Women Empowerment (GEWE) mechanism, and promote grassroots advocacy
for women’s rights and protection across the 25 local government areas of Delta State.
Mrs. Gbemudu expressed appreciation for the recognition, stating that the honour would further energise her commitment to creating safe spaces for women and girls. She also called on government agencies, traditional institutions, and the public to join hands in putting an end to all forms of violence and discrimination against women.
