UDEPA Shifts Focus To Uniting Delta Central

…Seeks physical Meeting with Oborevwori, Others

IN a renewed effort to place the Urhobo people at the forefront of development, the Urhobo Digital Editors and Publishers Alliance (UDEPA)  has commenced preparatory talks and strategic engagements aimed at reshaping the Urhobo narrative for a global audience. This noble initiative deserves collective support, as the Urhobo story has often been misrepresented in the media space.

The group has expressed its determination to consolidate unity among media professionals and political leaders, with the goal of ensuring lasting peace and sustainable development across Urhobo land and the wider Delta State.

The Chairman of UDEPA, Mr. Fredrick Umueuere, alongside the Secretary, Comrade Akpovoke Otiti, (aka the ‘truthsayer’),  disclosed this during a recent consultation with a top political figure in Ughelli. The meeting, according to them, is part of broader plans to convene a Unity Summit that will bring together political actors, traditional institutions, and media voices from Delta Central.

The leadership of UDEPA emphasized the need for synergy between the media and the political class in shaping public discourse and fostering a climate of mutual respect, inclusiveness, and progress. They believe the media has a pivotal role to play in bridging divides and promoting constructive dialogue among diverse stakeholders.

According to the Chairman, the group intends to hold consultative meetings with prominent Urhobo sons and daughters, including Governor Sheriff Oborevwori and other political heavyweights, to deepen conversations around unity and inclusivity in Delta Central.

“We believe that unity among our people is non-negotiable at this time. The media, as a critical institution, must lead the conversation and ensure we build bridges across political and social divides,” Mr. Umueuere said.

UDEPA reaffirmed its commitment to impartiality and professionalism, noting that its upcoming initiatives will not only enhance peace but also promote the cultural, economic, and political interests of the Urhobo nation within the broader context of Delta State and Nigeria at large.
