THE Delta State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) has inaugurated Local Education Authority School-Based Management Committees (SBMCs) across all 25 local government areas of the state, as part of efforts to revitalise public primary education.
The inauguration, held at the SUBEB headquarters in Asaba, was performed by the Executive Chairman of the Board, Hon. Samuel Mariere, who urged members to work collaboratively with both state and federal governments to restore the glory days of public primary schools.
Hon. Mariere noted that many of today’s leaders were products of public primary schools, stressing that their revival remains a key priority for Governor Sheriff Oborevwori’sadministration. He highlighted that the last two years have seen significant transformations in the education sector under the current government.
Expressing concern over the neglect of school facilities by some host communities, Mariere reminded the public that the SBMC initiative, introduced by the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC) and adopted by the Delta State Government, aims to encourage grassroots participation in school management and development.
He explained that membership of the SMBC was voluntary and open to credible individuals within the community who are passionate about supporting government’s efforts to improving public primary education.
He urged members to work closely with the State Steering Committee and SUBEB to ensure effective policy implementation that would enhance teaching and learning environments across the state.
In their remarks, the Permanent Secretary of Delta SUBEB, Mr. Byron Unini, and the State Chairman of SBMC, Mr. Sunday Okpare, commended the initiative and pledged their full support. Some newly inaugurated members also assured that all activities would be conducted transparently and in line with laid-down guidelines.
