PROWAN, Asaba Chapter Marks End Of Year Celebration

MEMBERS of the Professional Women Accountants In Nigeria (PROWAN), Asaba Chapter, which is the women’s wing of reputed accounting body, Association of National Accountants of Nigeria (ANAN), last Saturday at Triggs Events Centre, Okpanam Road, Asaba, held its annual dinner/awards ceremony, which has become an event to look forward to under the present tenure of the Coordinator of Asaba Chapter, Mrs. Oritsematosan Josephine Erikpara, FCNA, ACTI, AccFA since taking over the reins.

It was observed that PROWAN’s annual dinner in Asaba is getting better each year, as the 2025 edition came with added colour, pomp, radiance and displays, such as beauty pageantry, recognition of December birthday celebrants and cutting of their birthday cake, all aimed at showcasing the social side of members, fostering unity and solidarity and ensuring work-life balance among the professional women accountants.

Dignitaries who graced the event were the Permanent Secretary, Delta State Ministry of Physical Planning and Urban Renewal, Dr. (Mrs.) Charity Ehimen, who was the Chairman of the occasion, a retired PS in the state, Mrs. Odiase, Chairman of ANAN, Asaba branch, Mrs. Victoria Omamerhi-Chukwurah FCNA and the vice chairman, Pastor Williams Chiedu FCNA, immediate past chairman of ANAN, Asaba branch and ex-officio, Mr. Henry Edozie FCNA, Secretary of ANAN, Asaba Chapter, Mr. Jude Okeleke CNA, P.R.O. of Delta State Forum of Accountants, Omovo Charles Bonaventure CNA. Others included women professional associations drawn from different sectors, as well as the general public who came to celebrate the successful end of the year with the PROWAN members.

Chairman of the occasion, Dr. (Mrs.) Charity Ehimen encouraged the women accountants to stay united and focus on their professional development so as to make a difference in the public service and society at large.

In her address, Mrs. Erikpara said “this provides a valuable platform to reflect on our collective journey, celebrate the achievements of women in accountancy and more importantly, to chart a course towards a more equitable and ethically sound future in our field. It is crucial to highlight what our parent body, ANAN stands to gain from actively involving more women in its programmes and activities.”

According to the PROWAN Coordinator, “we gather at a time when the global discourse increasingly recognizes the pivotal role of women in driving progress and the undeniable need for unwavering ethical standards in all spheres of leadership, especially within the financial landscape.”

Erikpara further said that “accountancy, as a cornerstone of economic stability and transparency, demands the highest levels of integrity and competence. For so long, the narrative of this vital profession has been predominantly male.”

She added that “however, the landscape is evolving and PROWAN is proud to be at the forefront of driving this positive transformation. We firmly believe that a diverse accountancy profession, one where women are not only represented, but actively leading, will make for a stronger, more resilient and more innovative profession.

Erikpara concluded that “PROWAN, Asaba Chapter is deeply committed to nurturing a culture of integrity among our members and the broader accounting community. We believe that by promoting ethical conduct and accountability, we can enhance public trust in our profession and contribute to a more stable and just society.”

The event was concluded with dances, pleasantries, social bonding and merriment.
