POST-UTME: 13,000 Applicants Jostle For Admission Into UNIDEL

BY IFEANYI UWAGWU/PAUL EGEDE

ABOUT 13,000 candidates are currently jostling for admission into the University of Delta (UNIDEL), Agbor, as the institution conducts its Post-UTME screening ahead of the 2025/2026 academic session.

The Chairman, Post-UTME Screening Committee, Prof. Sunday Adewale, disclosed this while addressing newsmen, yesterday, saying that the sharp increase in applicants was a direct result of the rapid growth and development being witnessed in the institution. He explained that since 2022, the number of candidates choosing UNIDEL as their first choice has continued to grow geometrically, underscoring the university’s rising profile in Nigeria’s higher education sector.

Prof. Adewale further revealed that the Post-UTME Committee would submit its report and results to the Vice Chancellor and the university management tomorrow, while expressing optimism that the results would be released within 72 hours. He stated that the Vice-Chancellor would direct the Director of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) to upload them on the university’s portal.

Meanwhile, the Director of ICT, Dr (Mrs) Bridget Malasowe, said she was impressed with the smooth conduct of the exercise. According to her, every stage of the process, from the application to the examinations, had been seamless, with systems functioning optimally. She attributed the success of the exercise to the sterling leadership of the university’s management team.

The Vice-Chancellor of the institution, Prof. Stella Chiemeke, who monitored the screening exercise across the centres, expressed satisfaction with the conduct, supervision, and invigilation of the examinations. She commended the Post-UTME Committee and the technical team for their efforts, while warning unauthorised staff to keep away from the venues or face disciplinary action.

Some prospective students also lauded the process. Miss Gift Emmanuel, who applied for Nursing, said she was eager to be admitted into UNIDEL because of the institution’s reputation for academic excellence, discipline, and decency. Another applicant, Miss Fortress Rubere, described the exercise as well-organised and hitch-free.
