THE Anambra State Police Command has arrested four male kidnap suspects and recovered two pump-action guns along with nine live cartridges in Amansea, located in Awka North Local Government Area of the state.
According to the Command’s spokesperson, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the arrests were carried out by police operatives attached to the Rapid Response Squad (RRS), Awkuzu, in the early hours of September 1, 2025.
Ikenga stated that the operation was based on credible intelligence linked to a kidnapping case in which a ransom of ₦5m was paid before the victims were released.
The case was initially handled by B Division, Awka, before being transferred to the RSS on August 14, 2025.
The arrested suspects have been identified as Chigozie Igboekwu, 31, Odumegwu Chibuike 2, Jonah Awudu, 40, Okechukwu Nwari, 33.
Ikenga further disclosed that the suspects voluntarily confessed to the crime.
They admitted to conspiring among themselves and, on August 12, 2025, at about 7:00 p.m., abducted two victims in Amansea.
The victims were held for two days in a forested area at Ugwuoba, Enugu State, before a ransom was collected and the victims were subsequently released.
Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police, Anambra State Command, CP Ikioye Orutugu, has commended the operatives for their dedication and professionalism. He also reassured Ndi Anambra of the Command’s continued commitment to eradicating criminal elements and ensuring the safety and security of all residents.
Ikenga added that the case will be charged to court upon conclusion of investigations. He also noted that operations were ongoing to apprehend other members of the kidnapping syndicate.
