The Delta State Police Command has recorded another breakthrough in its sustained war against crime and criminality, with the arrest of a suspected kidnapper, an ammunition peddler, and a female courier.
According to a press statement signed by the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Bright Edafe, the operation, led by operatives of the Commissioner of Police (CP) Special Assignment Team (CP-SAT), resulted in the recovery of 115 rounds of AK-47 live ammunition, 220 rounds of SMG ammunition, and 32 live cartridges.
The PPRO explained that the success followed credible intelligence from the Force Technical Intelligence Unit (TIU), Abuja, which guided the CP-SAT, led by ASP Julius Robinson, to arrest a female suspect, Jamila Abubakar, at Conoil Filling Station, Warri–Patani Road, Effurun.
“Upon her arrest, officers discovered a cash sum of ₦550,000 neatly concealed beneath her bag, suspected to be proceeds from illicit transactions,” the statement noted.
Her arrest, the statement said, “provided a crucial lead that set off a well-coordinated follow-up operation.”
Building on that intelligence, the police team stormed the Niger-Cat area of Warri, where they successfully arrested a notorious arms peddler, identified as Ahmed Ibrahim, aged 31 years, of Ekpan, Uvwie Local Government Area, at about 7:25 a.m. on October 22, 2025.
“A search led to the recovery of a bag containing 115 rounds of 7.63mm AK-47 live ammunition, 220 rounds of SMG rifle ammunition, and 32 live cartridges,” the statement added.
Preliminary investigations, according to the Command, revealed that Ibrahim is “a key supplier of weapons to bandit groups in the North” and has been on the Command’s watch list for his alleged role in several high-profile kidnapping and armed-robbery operations.
He is also linked to the kidnapping and murder of one Ogheneovo Onemu (female), who was abducted on May 17, 2024, at Ajaokuta Community, Ughelli North Local Government Area, and later killed despite the payment of a ₦4 million ransom.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Olufemi Abaniwonda, while commending the operatives, described the breakthrough as “another testament to the Command’s commitment to stemming the flow of illegal arms, dismantling criminal syndicates, and bringing offenders to justice.”
He reaffirmed the Command’s determination “to identify and neutralise all networks involved in illicit weapons across the State,” adding that the Delta State Police Command will continue to strengthen its intelligence-gathering operations to curb the menace.
The CP further appealed to residents to remain vigilant and cooperate with the Police through credible information. “We urge members of the public to remain vigilant and continue supporting the Police with timely and credible information to aid the fight against crime,” he said.
Assuring the public of sustained security efforts, CP Abaniwonda stated, “The Command will sustain its momentum against criminal elements and remain resolute in protecting the lives and property of all law-abiding citizens.”
