Penawou Mourns Mother In-Law’s Demise

BY ELOHOR FAGHOLA/ELIZABETH ODUJE

THE Delta State Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Mr. Kelly Penawou, has unveiled a memorial stone in honour of his late mother-in-law, Mrs Abadama Brissimo.

Speaking with journalists at his Warri residence, Mr Penawou described Mrs Brissimo as a peaceful, loving, and supportive figure who played a major role in his family for over two decades.

The Commissioner recalled how she would often help him with tasks like tying his traditional wrapper, symbolizing their close bond.

“She was a wonderful mother. She raised my children, taught them the Ijaw language, and cared for them with dedication” he said, even as he shared a story about how she would joke with him, even just hours before her passing.

Penawou expressed shock at her sudden passing, particularly after a doctor had assured the family that she was recovering. “It was traumatic,” he said, adding “I was not prepared. At 3 a.m., we had to rush her to the hospital, but she didn’t make it. It’s still hard to believe.”

The late Mrs. Brissimo’s son, Mr. Clovis Brizimor, also paid tribute to his mother, describing her as simple, hardworking, and deeply caring. He credited her with instilling strong values of diligence and entrepreneurship, which had enabled him to venture into various businesses.
