PCC Celebrates 50 Years Of Service

BY AJAYI EMMANUEL

THE Public Complaints Commission (PCC) recently marked a significant milestone with the celebration of 50 years of promoting administrative justice and protecting citizens’ rights. The occasion, held in Delta State, brought together distinguished guests, including the Commissioner of Police represented by SP. Endurance Wokeh, National Human Right Commission represented by Assistant investigation Officer,  Mr Atuche Chinedu and other heads of federal ministries, departments, and agencies.

In his address, the Honourable Federal Commissioner, Delta State, Mr. Matthew Uduaghan, highlighted the commission’s achievements over the past five decades. He noted that the PCC had successfully handled numerous cases, promoting fairness and accountability in both public and private sectors.

Recall that the commission’s establishment in 1975,  was a response to the need for an institution that could address complaints of maladministration, corruption, and abuse of power. Since its inception, PCC has worked tirelessly to bridge the gap between government and citizens, ensuring that the rights of individuals are protected and their grievances addressed.

Uduaghan emphasized the commission’s commitment to its mandate, despite facing challenges such as poor funding, bureaucratic bottlenecks, and political interference. He, however, expressed optimism that the commission would continue to navigate these obstacles and strengthen its relationships with other agencies to achieve its goals.

“The PCC’s 50th anniversary serves as a testament to its dedication to promoting good governance and administrative justice. As the commission looks to the future, it remains committed to its mission of protecting citizens’ rights and promoting accountability in both public and private sectors” he said.

Members of staff of the commission applauded the new leadership of PCC, Delta Chapter, in the person of Mr. Matthew Uduaghan who has since the inception of his tenure about a year ago, supported and pushed them to be better than they were,  as they recently ranked number 2 nationwide,  in terms of performance and impact.

Uduaghan explained that he will continue to serve Delta State and represent her at the national level. “We are a federal agency but in reality we serve the Delta communities. The monthly revenue we receive from national is not enough, so we need the Governor of Delta State, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori to come to our rescue with basic facilities and funds to enable us serve Delta State better,” he said.
