It was a new dawn for politicians in Oshimili South Local Government Area, Delta State, as former members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and their All Progressives Congress (APC) counterparts gathered for a unity meeting that witnessed a massive turnout of members.
The event was the first time politicians from across the local government area gathered in unity and love, as expressed during the meeting, since after the recent defection of the PDP stakeholders, led by the Governor, the Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, to the APC in a well celebrated rally at Asaba.
In demonstration of the recognition of their main objectives, the meeting adopted a motion for a vote of confidence on President Bola Tinubu and Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, with a proviso that both are adopted as sole candidates for the 2027 presidential and governorship elections.
The motion was moved by member of the House of Representatives representing Aniocha/Oshimili Federal Constituency, Rt. Hon Ngozi Okolie, and seconded by former member of Delta State House of Assembly, Hon. Shedrack Rapu.
In his opening remarks during the meeting that attracted political leaders, the Chairman of APC in Oshimili South Local Government Area, Ogbueshi Dada Okolo said that the meeting was to demonstrate unity and togetherness among the politicians of the former PDP and APC members, adding that the party has welcomed everybody and they were all ready to work for the success of the APC come 2027.
According to him, the present status of the APC in the local government area will attract fresh ideas, peace and development and assured that 2027 will be ‘APC all the way’.
Also speaking, a former State Chairman of PDP and Special Adviser to the Governor on Peace Building and Conflict Resolution, Chief Edwin Uzor, advised that politicians in the area should see the unification meeting as a stepping stone to achieve unity of purpose and determination to promote the party in the local government area, just as he advised everybody to go back to their wards and mobilise members for the APC.
Also speaking, the Chairman of Oshimili South Local Government, Chief Kelvin Ezenyili emphasised the need for members to remain committed in mobilising support for the party, stressing that they must deliver the APC candidates come 2027.
Others present at the meeting were former Speaker, Delta State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Peter Onwusanya, local government Chairman, Chief Kelvin Ezenyili, Hon Shedrack Rapu, Dr Darlington Ijeh, Ogbueshi Sualaeze Eluaka, Ogbueshi Dada Okonji, former PDP Woman Leader, Lady Kanwulia Omoko, Ogbueshi Chike Ifesiokwu, etc.
