LEADER of Oshimili South Legislative Arm, Rt. Hon. Michael Okonji has praised members for their active involvement in formulating laws that directly impact on the growth and development of the council.
Okonji stated this during a plenary to mark one year of the legislative arm in Asaba, the local government area headquarters.
He said as “representatives of the people, we as lawmakers have been able to pass laws that impacted positively on lives.”
He disclosed that the Oshimili South Supplementary Budget 2024, Oshimili South Economic and Advisory Committee Bye-law 2024, Oshimili South Appropriation Bye-law 2025 are some of the notable laws successfully passed during the 2024-2025 legislative period.
He recalled their attendance at a plenary session at the Delta State House of Assembly, saying that it demonstrated the working relationship between the Legislative Arm of the local government and the State Assembly, adding that valuable insights into legislative best practices and commitment to democratic governance were learnt by members.
“Each of these milestones reflects our dedication to good governance, people-centred policies and progressive development”, he said.
Okonji commended the State Governor, Rt. Hon Sheriff Oborevwori for his leadership skills, which he said is being reflected in the local government area via his MORE Agenda.
Hh thanked the Council Chairman, Hon. (Dr.) Obi Kelvin Ezenyili for his continuous collaboration and leadership.
He described the members as vision-driven and thanked them for their unwavering support, constructive engagement and shared passion for progress, adding that their achievements were a collective triumph.
While expressing gratitude to constituents for their trust and encouragement, he urged them to remain united as they were determined to make Oshimili South a model of excellence.
Highlight of the one year anniversary was a visit to the Asaba Specialist Hospital, Umuagu Primary Healthcare Centre, Umuaji Primary Healthcare Centre, Cable Point Primary Healthcare Centre, Okwe General Hospital and Oko Amakom Health Centre, where the lawmakers presented kits to nursing mothers for the care of their new born babies.
The beneficiaries, who were filled with joy, thanked the lawmakers and prayed God to be with them in all their legislative activities.
