The Director General of the Delta State Bureau for Communications and Orientation, Dr Fred Latimore Oghenesivbe, has assured that Governor Sheriff Oborevwori’s foreign trips will yield positive results in strategic sectors of the state economy, particularly in agriculture, CNG-powered buses for transportation, and waste-to-wealth economic remodelling.
He gave the assurance yesterday while reacting to comments by a social media influencer, who alleged that the governor’s foreign trips have yet to attract sufficient foreign investments to Delta State.
Dr Oghenesivbe stated that Governor Oborevwori’s administration has been a game-changer, delivering on his electioneering promises to the people, and emphasised that the governor remains focused on his deliberate efforts to attract direct foreign investments to the state.
He explained that following foreign investment trips by the governor and other government officials, a reasonable period is required to finalise negotiations, immigration arrangements for expatriates, and legal documentation, particularly in relation to factors of production, technology transfer where necessary, repatriation of investment profits, tax holidays and other incentives between parties, before the physical presence of foreign investors can be established in the state.
He further assured that government officials’ foreign investment trips are not, and will never be, a jamboree at the expense of public funds, as alleged by the social media influencer. He added that Governor Oborevwori is well known to be allergic to waste of public funds and will never embark on fruitless foreign investment trips, neither now nor in the future.
The Bureau Chief said the trailblazing legacy of the governor, through pragmatic and visionary leadership, would continue to upscale the socio-economic and infrastructural development of the state, attracting unprecedented economic growth and progress across the three senatorial districts.
He pointed out that Governor Oborevwori’s administration has prioritised infrastructural development, transforming the state’s roads and building mega bridges to enhance the movement of goods and services, noting that the impact is evident in improved rural-urban connectivity, increased economic activities, and greater access to social services. “The governor’s diplomatic efforts through strategic foreign investment trips will, sooner rather than later, yield bountiful results by attracting foreign investments from countries such as China and Brazil.
“These partnerships will open up new opportunities for economic growth, technology transfer, and job and wealth creation across the three senatorial districts in the state.
“The signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Federal Rural Electrification Agency in Abuja marks a significant milestone in the state’s quest for improved electricity supply. This partnership will enhance access to reliable power, attract local and foreign investments, and ultimately drive economic growth and improve the living standards of our people.
“As we look towards the future, it is evident that Governor Oborevwori’s re-election in 2027 is not just a possibility but a necessity. His track record speaks for itself, and Deltans would be wise to continue supporting his administration.
“I urge all Deltans to join me in commending Governor Oborevwori for his outstanding leadership. Let us rally behind him and continue to support his vision for a better Delta State.
“Together, we can build a brighter future for ourselves and future generations. Let us make a collective pledge to stand by Governor Oborevwori’s administration until May 29, 2031, and beyond,” the statement added.
