In a show of solidarity, the Coalition of Academics for Governor Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, led by Prof. Lawrence Omo Aghoja, has lauded the governor’s achievements in the education sector, affirming their readiness to stand firmly behind him.
The coalition paid a courtesy visit to the Commissioner for Higher Education, Prof. Nyerhovwo Tonukari, to brief him on their activities and to express appreciation for the Governor’s numerous achievements.
They praised the administration’s efforts in improving infrastructure, enhancing the welfare of university staff, and expanding institutions such as the Orerokpe Campus.
Tonukari further highlighted Governor Oborevwori’s role in establishing new faculties in existing universities, upgrading polytechnics to university status, and introducing innovative programmes to strengthen research and development.
According to the academics, the provision of modern facilities and equipment in higher institutions, the promotion of staff development, and measures to widen access for students from disadvantaged backgrounds have endeared the Governor to the academic community and underscored his commitment to the growth of the sector.
In his response, Prof. Tonukari advised the coalition to note that Governor Oborevwori is now a member of the All Progressives Congress (APC), stressing that their support should align with the party’s interests.
The academics, however, assured the commissioner of their unwavering loyalty, declaring that they would follow the Governor wherever he goes and remain committed to working with him to achieve his vision for education in the state, irrespective of political affiliations.
