- Isreal Ojii is a grassroots politician, mobiliser and community leader. In this interview with IFEANYI OMENOGOR, he spoke on politics, community development, the 2027 general elections and the need to support Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori’s administration in Delta State, among sundry issues. Excerpts…
What are the objectives of the Peoples Mandate?
As the name goes, Peoples Mandate is a political body with people of likeminds, with the sole interest of developing society through good governance. We do this by making sure that the mandate of the people is giving to persons that will bring better leadership and development. That is to say that the group help to mobilise our people to get things right, in particular bringing about good leadership to uplift society.
Therefore, it is political and social group existing for the overall good of society.
Now that activities heralding 2027 general elections are beginning to take shape, how is your group getting involved?
We are aware of that, and we have started educating our people and mobilising them on who to be voted for. In doing this, we will look at achievements and ability of persons to bring democratic dividends to our people.
How do you relate this to Governor Sheriff Oborevwori’s re-election bid come 2027?
At present, the Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori is doing so well in the state, we supported him before, we will continue to support him to ensure that more development are attracted to the state.
You can see that our governor has brought more development to the state. I can mention the ongoing construction of flyovers in Warri, the ongoing rehabilitation work on Nnebisi Road in Asaba and many others in the riverine areas and other parts of the state.
I will mostly thank Governor Oborevwori for his proactive approach to roads and bridges’ construction throughout the state. He specifically referenced the Asaba–Ughelli Road project, as over 150 kilometres of the road have been successfully completed to high standards. We know roads are vital initiatives that enhance transportation and stimulate economic growth in every society; hence, we must encourage him to do more.
From what we are seeing, Governor Oborevwori is making remarkable progress. The MORE Agenda is working, therefore, we must support him to take us to the Promised Land. Oborevwori is a go getter; the administration has recorded tremendous development in the state.
What is your take on the governor and other stakeholders joining the All Progressives Congress (APC)?
It was a wise decision; I believe that the synergy of the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Tinubu and the MORE Agenda of the Governor will take the state to greater heights by attracting development from the Federal Government to the state. You can see the ongoing reconstruction of the Asaba–Benin dual carriageway and others by the Federal Government.
Hence, come 2027, members of PM would vote for the governor because he has made a difference in the governance of the state by spreading projects across the three Senatorial districts. I am using this opportunity to call on Deltans to continue to support Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, because he is one of the best governors the state has ever had. He is doing much; therefore, he should be supported to deliver democratic dividends to our people.
Do you have any message for the governor?
Yes, I want to urge the governor to sustain the tempo of development across the state; he should continue to develop the state and make Delta one of the best states in the country.
Also, I am from Ewulu Community in Aniocha South Local Government Area, I want to appeal to the Governor to complete the second phase of Ewulu road to enhance businesses and social activities in the town, and bring more development to the area.
What message do you have for Deltans and Nigerians?
I urge Deltans and Nigerians to pray for our governor and the President, Bola Tinubu for God to give them greater wisdom and strength to tackle the challenges facing the state and the country.
The President should look into how to completely stamp out insecurity, provide more job opportunities for our youths and bring down the prices of food items to make life more comfortable for Deltans and Nigerians in general. I will conclude by saying that the governor has made positive impacts on governance, we must support our governor; come 2027, we all must come out and vote for Governor Sheriff Oborevwori to enable him finish the marvellous works he is doing for the state.
