A one-time Commissioner for Higher Education and Education Consultant, Prof. Hope Eghagha, today revealed that Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, was deeply committed to creating a conducive learning environment and improving the quality of education in the state’s tertiary institutions.

Eghagha disclosed this during the commencement of the needs assessment tour of tertiary institutions across the state.

According to him, the tour was aimed at identifying the infrastructural and administrative challenges facing state-owned universities and recommending sustainable solutions.

Eghagha reaffirmed the government’s commitment to equipping institutions with the necessary resources for optimal performance, emphasizing that the tour aligned with Governor Sheriff Oborevwori’s educational development agenda.

“I assure you that Governor Sheriff Oborevwori is deeply interested in education; that is why he directed this tour to assess the needs of our tertiary institutions and ensure that they are adequately addressed,” Eghagha stated.

He further disclosed that a comprehensive report would be submitted to the state government upon completion of the exercise.

During separate visits to Dennis Osadebay University, Asaba, and the University of Delta, Agbor, the Vice Chancellors, Prof. Ben Oghojafor and Prof. (Mrs.) Stella Chiemeke, respectively, highlighted key challenges confronting their institutions, including inadequate infrastructure, staff shortages, and the need for improved facilities to enhance teaching and learning outcomes, amongst other issues.

The management teams of both institutions commended the state government for its proactive approach and continued support of tertiary education, expressing optimism that the issues raised would receive prompt attention.

The ongoing needs assessment tour is expected to cover all state-owned tertiary institutions as part of a broader plan to strengthen the educational system and promote academic excellence in the state.
