The appointment of Olorogun Ese Kakor as the Director-General of the Delta State Local Content Board has drawn praises from community leaders, including Chief Onos Gasper Ighwre, the Ohwojero of Ughievwen Kingdom.
Chief Ighwre, in a formal statement, commended both the Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori and the State Assembly for the selection, describing Kakor as a seasoned professional whose expertise aligned with the state’s goals for inclusive development.
“The Local Content Board is not just an administrative body, it is the engine for ensuring that our people, our businesses, and our professionals directly benefit from the economic opportunities within Delta State, especially in pivotal sectors like oil, gas, and infrastructure,” Ighwre stated.
The newly confirmed Director-General brings years of experience in public service and community development, a background that stakeholders believe positions him to effectively translate policy into tangible outcomes. Kakor’s mandate is expected to focus on enhancing local participation in major projects, promoting skills development, and ensuring that a greater share of contracts and employment opportunities remain within the state.
Chief Ighwre emphasized that the success of the board will depend on collaboration across sectors and called on private enterprises, civil society groups, and local communities to actively support Kakor’s office in implementing policies that prioritize indigenous expertise. “When local content is genuinely enforced, it does more than stimulate the economy—it promotes social equity, reduces poverty, and ensures that growth is felt in every part of Delta State,” he added.
The appointment is seen as a reaffirmation of the Oborevwori administration’s commitment to grassroots economic transformation. Under Kakor’s leadership, the board is anticipated to introduce more robust monitoring frameworks, foster public-private partnerships, and launch initiatives aimed at increasing the capacity of local businesses to compete in high-value industries.
As Delta State continues to navigate the complexities of resource management and economic diversification, the direction set by the Local Content Board will be crucial in determining whether development translates into widespread, sustainable prosperity for its residents.
