NGOs Urge Tinubu To Sustain Pipeline Surveillance Contract With Tantita

The Forum of Delta State Non-Governmental Organizations (FODESAN) has called on the Federal Government to sustain the pipeline surveillance contract awarded to Tantita Security Services Nigeria Limited, describing the initiative as critical to peace, economic stability and environmental protection in the Niger Delta.

The group made the appeal in a statement signed by its Coordinator, Dcn Okezi Odugala, and Secretary, Mr Ekenem Omosor.

According to the forum, “The Forum of Delta State Non-Governmental Organizations (FODESAN) calls on the Federal Government of Nigeria, under the leadership of His Excellency, President Bola Tinubu, to sustain the pipeline surveillance contract awarded to Tantita Security Services Nigeria Limited, led by its Chairman, Chief Government Ekpemupolo, popularly known as Tompolo.

“Over the years, the pipeline surveillance initiative has played a significant role in restoring peace, stability, and economic opportunities in the Niger Delta region. The engagement of Tantita Security Services and the inclusion of former agitators in the surveillance framework have helped reduce incidents of crude oil theft, pipeline vandalism, and environmental degradation that previously plagued the region.”

Beyond security improvements, the organisation said the surveillance programme has created economic opportunities for youths and former agitators across the Niger Delta, strengthening peacebuilding efforts in the region.

FODESAN also commended the Managing Director of Tantita Security Services Nigeria Limited, Engr. Kestin Pondi and his management team for their role in the operational success of the programme.

While acknowledging that there may be differing opinions about the contract, the forum warned that calls for its termination could undermine the progress achieved in the region.

“FODESAN strongly believes that calls for its termination at this critical time do not reflect the broader interest of peace, stability, and development in the Niger Delta. Those agitating for the cancellation of the contract risk undermining the fragile progress achieved in the region and could inadvertently encourage a resurgence of activities that threaten national assets and environmental safety.”

The group therefore urged the Federal Government to maintain the partnership with Tantita Security Services Limited while continuing engagement with stakeholders in the Niger Delta.
