NDLEA Official, Neighbour Electrocuted In Rivers Community

TWO persons, including an official of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA),  were electrocuted following an electrical spark which ignited fire in Okrika in Okrika Local Government Area of Rivers State.

It was gathered that the incident occurred when the power supply was restored in the wee hours of the day, leading to a spark.

A source in the area who witnessed the incident told newsmen that the NDLEA official was electrocuted when he tried to remove the fuse in his apartment.

The source, who pleaded anonymity, said “What happened was that there was no power supply in the area. So when power was restored early this morning, it caused a spark in one of the houses in the community.

“The electrical spark resulted in a fire. So, a man working with the NDLEA out of fear went to remove the fuse in his house and in the process he was electrocuted.

“Another man, his neighbour, was also electrocuted in his room. So, the two of them died”.

It was also gathered that the incident caused panic in the area as some residents fled out of fear.

When contacted, the spokesperson for the state police command, Grace Iringe-Koko, confirmed the incident and the casualty figure, saying an investigation was ongoing.

She said, “I can confirm the incident. Two people were affected and not six as had been reported in some quarters.
