The leadership of the National Association of Delta State Students (NADESSTU) Worldwide has congratulated the team of brilliant Delta students who represented Nigeria and emerged champions at the prestigious World Debate Championship held in Doha, Qatar.
In a press release issued by the National President of NADESSTU, Comrade Oweiotu-ebi Oyinkare-ebi Joseph, the association applauded the students for their historic feat, describing the victory as a testament to the intellectual prowess of Delta students and the growing impact of educational investments in the state.
The victorious team includes Wisdom Chukwuma of Government College, Ughelli; Otorvo Uyoyou of Alegbo Secondary School, Effurun; Abraham Honour of Okpaka Secondary School, Okpaka; Ekhamateh Splendour of Government Model Secondary School, Asaba; and Alika Daniel of Utagba-Ogbe Grammar School, Kwale. The team, led by Mr. Chukwuma Wisdom, advanced to the global competition after winning the national debate championship organised by the Presidential Schools Debate Nigeria under the Presidency.
The Delta team defeated top student-debaters from around the world, including strong opponents from Chicago, USA, and the host nation Qatar, securing a 2–1 victory in the first round and a 3–0 clean sweep in the finals, earning them the overall championship with a 5–1 aggregate score.
“This remarkable achievement has placed Nigeria on the global intellectual map and is a resounding endorsement of the Delta State Government’s continuous investment in education,” the NADESSTU president stated.
Comrade Oyinkare-ebi described the students as “the pride of the nation” and “ambassadors of Delta State,” noting that their performance had not only brought joy to their families and schools, but also inspired a new wave of commitment to critical thinking, academic excellence, and youth empowerment across the country.
“Their compelling argumentation, eloquence, and firm grasp of contemporary issues are worthy of national commendation and imitation. They have become the intellectual powerhouse of Delta State,” he added.
NADESSTU Worldwide, through its National Executive Council, reaffirmed its commitment to celebrating academic excellence and supporting platforms that harness the potential of Delta students globally.
The Association concluded its message with heartfelt congratulations to the debate champions, urging them to continue to lead by example and remain shining beacons for other young Nigerians.
